Judging Criteria

How finalists are selected across three tracks

Student projects in the Autodesk Panorama competition are evaluated by category. Each track emphasises design thinking, originality, and confident use of the relevant Autodesk tools to identify finalists.

Across every track of the Autodesk Panorama competition, the judging panel looks for evidence of thoughtful design thinking expressed through the relevant Autodesk toolsets. Rather than rewarding surface polish alone, reviewers want to see how a student approached a problem, structured their process, and translated intent into a coherent final piece. The shared expectation is that finalists can clearly articulate why they made specific design and technical decisions at each stage of their workflow.

In the Manufacturing track, submissions built around Autodesk Inventor are evaluated on overall design strength, creative ability, innovation, and confident command of the software. Jurors pay close attention to how students model parts and assemblies, manage constraints, and present their work as a logical sequence rather than a collection of disconnected screens. A consistent methodology and a clear narrative tend to carry as much weight as visual ambition.

The Architecture track centres on Autodesk Revit, where the focus is on a holistic design approach supported by originality and innovative thinking. Reviewers examine how well projects integrate programmatic, spatial, and structural considerations, and how deliberately the modelling environment is used to test and refine ideas. Submissions that demonstrate a strong point of view while remaining grounded in sound building logic are best positioned to stand out.

For the Animation track, jurors review work produced with 3ds Max and Maya, balancing overall design, creative ability, and technical excellence. They look for confident scene construction, considered use of lighting and camera, and a sense of timing that supports the story being told. Polished execution is welcomed, but the most compelling entries usually pair that finish with a clear creative voice and a thoughtful rationale for the chosen tools and techniques.
